A Doctor Goes to Haiti
Jim Hine, MD recalls his recent mission:
“Our primary mission was to help train local ophthalmologists to better serve the local population once we left. We worked with Haitian ophthalmologists Drs. Lucien and Monsanto. It was a joy to mentor them as they were competent and eager to increase their surgical skills. I found myself impressed by the Haitian joy of life in face of poverty. Their aristocratic stature and proud nature as well as their immediate thankfulness for the smallest kindness were apparent.”
As I Left The Hospital…
“The last evening of my trip this January, I walked by a street light powered by the hospital’s generator. Gathered under the only reliable source of electricity, sat and stood children doing their homework. With the help of the Order of Malta, CRUDEM and Hôpital Sacré Coeur are helping to build the future of Haiti.”
Inspiration to Ride
Avid bicyclists, Jim Hine and his friend Terry Albers decide to cross the US by bike to raise money and awareness for The CRUDEM Foundation’s efforts in Haiti.
The trek begins May 18, 2011.
