Day 20 - Weott to Eureka

May 22, 2009

58 miles

Another cold, misty day from the Redwoods to the farmlands. We stopped for lunch in Fernbridge at the only cafe in town. We often find ourselves in little, quirky eateries that often have surprisingly good food. This one in particular hit the spot with biscuits and gravy, and a giant butter and syrup smothered pancake. The kitsch decor was an added bonus.

We got to Eureka and had another failed attempt at getting internet access. We made a quick stop for groceries, where Bruno restocked on his favorite food: marshmallows, or as he calls them, “chamallow” (imagine, spoken in a heavy french accent). He kind of got us hooked on them too.

We pushed on to camp to end our long day. We had high hopes and were excited about staying at another KOA, but this one wasn’t nearly as nice as in Manchester. The hiker biker sites were shoved behind the registration building and were barely big enough to fit one tent. They did have a jacuzzi though, so that made us happy.
