On a tip from the cook at the cafe in Fernbridge, we decided to check out the Kinetic Grand Championship Race in Arcata. It’s really hard to describe what we saw, but it was well worth the stop.

We weren’t sure where the race began, so we just started to ride into Arcata. When we saw a costumed cyclist, we knew we were on the right track. She led us right to the start of the race. We can’t remember her name, but it was something like Delorah.

The premise of the race is that participants create human-powered vehicles that need to travel across land and water, and also have artistic value. The results of those three requirements are quite vast. Seeing them move was impressive. We wish we could have stayed to see them move in the water.
