Holne - Venton

April 4, 2011

Wake up to the morning bleat of ewes and lambs, very pleasant. Let out from the warmer comfort of the barn, lambs springing with delight.

Buckfast Abbey

I head towards Buckfast Abbey. A walk inside the Abbey, light a candle for my Gran Mother who passed away December 2010, aged 97, good going. Lets hope its in the genes!

Not sure about where I will be camping tonight, so head towards Kennick and Trenchford Reservoir. Nothing of much interest onroute except beautiful or strange Devon cottages.

Purchased a copy of The Dartmoor Way map at the information shop at Ashburton. This has the route printed on an Ordnance Survey chart. These have become hard to come by. Was originally using an Ordnance Survey standard chart and a brief idea of the route.

The reservoirs been reservoirs, passed through quite sharply, 'no camping' signs everywhere!

The Dartmoor Way is only briefly sign posted in places. From what I have gathered, funds had run dry.

The Dartmoor Way

Morehampstead. Tried the information shop for any extra info. regarding camping. Best of an expensive bunch, a backpackers at £16, no camp ground there though. So make head way to a campsite 8 miles out of town at Venton.

Should have stayed with the backpackers! Venton campsite is a caravaners ground, hell for someone who's always looking for a wild camping spot. £15 for a patch of grass....what! To late to look anywhere else.
