Day 85 Durban-Corbiéres to Céret 88 km

June 25, 2011

We set off feeling slightly more optimistic after our rest day.  It is going to be a scorcher today and it is still windy, but slightly less ferocious than yesterday.  We can see the Pyrenees in the far distance - will we get there today?  The road becomes undulating making it a more interesting ride.  We climb steadily and the mountains get nearer and nearer.  It confirms what we knew really - mountains are where we love to be.

A roadside thermometre shows the temperature to be 38 degrees, no wonder we are feeling hot!  But, despite the heat, we cross the Pyrenees before we know it and speed down into the town of Céret.  The first campsite we try is dismal - so we move on and find another which is a little way from the town but much nicer.  We end up with the usual mad dash to get the tent set up, ourselves showered and dressed and down into the town for dinner before the bars and restaurants close at around 9 pm.  This may be our last night in France and, with luck, the last time we have to rush around like this.
