The past 2 days have been summer on the North Coast.  On Thursday we had a meandering trip along the coast, traveling from Brookings to Crescent City.  Last night we stayed with Jean's relatives in Crescent City.  Today the sun was shining and Jean had a great ride up the Crescent City hill.  It's a 1000 foot climb through the redwoods.  I rode back from Prairie Creek State Park and we both had a chance to ride 10 miles through old growth redwoods.  There is only about 2% old growth redwoods left in California and it was a privilege to a have  quiet ride through them.  I felt like I was riding through a cathedral.  This afternoon we rubbed elbows with the  outdoor hippies in Arcata.  We're spending the night at the Arcata KOA.  Sunday morning it's off to Ferndale  to check out the kinetic bike exhibit.  We may spend a couple of days camped along the Avenue of Giants.  The fog rolled in this evening and we're hoping for some sunshine inland.
