Adapting to the Rain

September 19, 2010

We've been adapting this trip as we go along.  Rain was forecasted all weekend, so we decided to drive to Portland and stay at another Motel 6.  Elle one of the guides from the WT Lewis & Clark trip lives in Portland.   We gave her a call and made arrangements to meet for coffee.   It was great to chat and catch up.  Elle was kind enough to give us a bike map for the city.  So after coffee we set off to explore Portland in the rain.  We had a nice ride along the river, but the steady downpour motivated us to cut the ride short after 10 miles and head back to the motel.  We grabbed tacos from a Mexican food truck and took them back to the room and had tacos and beer for dinner.  It poured last night, making us appreciate the fact we weren't sleeping in tents.

Rain was with us again today, so we drove to Tillamook got another motel and visited the cheese factory.  Tomorrow we're setting off for Lincoln City.  We plan to ride rain or shine.  I'll ride first and Jean will drive to Pacific City and drop off  the car and then set off riding for Lincoln City.  I'll pick up the car and then meet Jean in Lincoln City.  I'm hoping for a rainless day.   It would be nice to get back to camping.  There's nothing like the morning cup of coffee in the great outdoors!
