WANDERING THROUGH THE OLD GROWTH REDWOODS

September 30, 2010

Monday was a day of relaxing among the giant redwoods.  After morning coffee we strolled over to the visitor center where we spent an hour discovering the history of the Humboldt Redwoods.  Then it was back to the bike.   We did a 20 mile ride to the Rockfellow Redwood Forest.  A  1/2 mile walk took us to the  Giant Tree.  It's one of the record setting redwoods, 363 feet tall with a circumference of 53 feet.  Then it was back to the campground for beer and chips.  We've become very lazy in the balmy warm weather below the coastal redwoods.  Tuesday it's off to Garberville and beyond.  I'm looking forward to exploring the town of Garberville, it's known for its hemp connection.

Gazing up at the cathedral lights.

Pretty big don't you think.
