Genesis of the trip
In the beginning, there was nothing material, only dreams: travelling in faraway lands, taking time for self progress, trying other ways of living, cycling to feel the distance, get simpler life ... There were inspiring tales in books, charming names on the world map, songs of freedom, ... One day all these thoughts flying in mind united in a single idea: cycling to India to dive deeper in the yoga tradition.
¨May your life be devoured by your dreams before life devour your dreams. ¨Antoine de St-Exupéry.
The idea started taking form into matter, I gave time to the kid inside by wandering my eyes over a map of the world, mentally ticking places to go to: Praha, The Balkans, Istanbul, Ararat Mounts, Esfahan, Samarkand, The Pamirs, Lahore, and Rishikesh, as a first goal, on the banks of the Ganges just out of the Himalayas. Plan is to live in ashrams, learn from teachers, and sage. After a probable detour to Nepal for a new Indian visa, I will go south : Goa, Mysore, Auroville are on my list. Let's see how it flows.
I started planning through websites, to read long time cycling experiences. Further, with amazing synchronicity, confirming this project was meant to be, I met inspiring cyclists: the bread seller at the market, Eelco in Amsterdam, Peter from Utrecht, Friedel and Andrew in Den Haag, whose website full of cycling resources I recommend: http://travellingtwo.com/
To anchor it deeper in reality, I set up a departure date in March 2011, which was about a year to prepare and gather the gear for the trip. While hunting in outdoor shops, it was funny thinking where I should be within a year.
This page intends to answer the question ¨Why?¨, that was asked so many times, as if we always needed reasons for anything we do.
Whether I'm afraid or not ? Maybe Mom is.
If I am used to different customs? I managed to survive more than four years in The Netherlands ...

An answer to the question ¨Are you crazy?¨
