What's New at BikeTrippin?

RSS Feeds!

As promised, we've added RSS feeds to all trips. Look for the RSS icon on your trip's Overview and Journal pages. Click the icon and copy that page's URL into your favorite feed reader. Now your friends can be updated with your latest journal entries each time you post.

Upcoming Feature: RSS Feed Integration

A cycle tourist recently asked us whether he could update his readers of journal entries using an RSS feed. We haven't integrated RSS yet, but we think it's a great idea and are working on adding it. In case you're not familiar with RSS, it will allow your journal entries to be automatically published to what's called an "RSS reader" or "feed reader" (Google Reader and FeedDemon are examples of feed readers). Your readers will then be updated with your latest journal entries every time you post. Look for this feature in the coming week!

View All Trips

Our number one question so far has been, "How can I see trips other than just your original BikeTrippin tour?". The problem has been that since we're so new, until recently we didn't have any trips other than our own! We're excited to say that a few people have added their trips and we've now created a page that lists all the trips on BikeTrippin. There are only a few, but hopefully it gives you an idea of where we're headed with the site.

We're figuring out what features to add to BikeTrippin.com next by thinking about what we think would be useful and by listening to feedback from users. If you have any ideas that you'd like us to consider implementing, let us know by email (hello@biketrippin.com), Twitter (@biketrippers), or Facebook. We'd really appreciate it.

New Map Features Added

Now when you click on your trip's map to draw your route you can choose how the points should be connected. The default option connects straight lines between the points you click, and the "automatic" option draws a path on the roads between the points. This option is great for drawing the parts of your route that were on roads, whereas the "straight line" method is great for off roading and bike paths. Look for these options on your map tool bar. Also, the route distance will automatically be displayed as you click!

Display Twitter Messages on Your Trip Page

On our tour last year, we found that using Twitter was a tremendously useful way to keep connected with our friends and family. Our blog posts were tough to keep up with because it was often hard to find internet access, and they took a whole lot of time. Twitter posts were easy. When we would arrive at our destination for the day, if we had cell phone service, we would usually post a Twitter update, which would show up right on our blog.

We've made it easy to post your Twitter updates on your BikeTrippin Trip page. When you create a new trip, you'll be able to enter your Twitter username, and we'll then display your Tweets on that page. Let me know what you think! aimee@biketrippin.com

We added a "Share This Trip" section on the trip sidebar page. Now when you create a trip you can easily share your trip with your friends by email, facebook, twitter, or in a varity of other ways.
